2017 Los Angeles Auto Show: 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS revealed. The new CLS revealed at the LA Auto Show is the third-generation of the four-door coupe, which was first unveiled in 2003 and will hit showrooms in March 2018.

  • The all-new Mercedes CLS gets a choice of two powertrains, both turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six engines – one petrol and a diesel in two states of tune – which are mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
  • The Mercedes CLS 350 d’s turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine produces 282bhp and 600Nm of torque while the more powerful CLS 400 d cranks up the power to 335bhp with torque increasing to 700Nm.

  • The new CLS 450 uses the new Mercedes turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six engine with 48V electrics and an integrated starter/generator. The straight-six engine produces 362bhp and 500Nm of torque with the electric motor providing an additional 21.6bhp and 250Nm of torque.
  • The 450 is the quickest car in the new CLS lineup with a 0-100kph time of 4.8 seconds. All CLS models are electronically limited to a top speed of 250kph.
  • Regarding design, the all-new 2018 Mercedes CLS features a sharper design more reminiscent of the original car from 2003 but with modern Mercedes touches.
  • The large front grille with the Mercedes three-pointed star is flanked by angular LED headlamps with integrated boomerang-shaped DRLs and sits ahead of a long swooping bonnet.
  • The sides of the new 2018 CLS look a lot cleaner and features a soft shoulder line running across from the headlight to the tail lamp. The wheel arches play host to 18-inch alloy wheels.
  • Inside, the CLS has lost its unique look, and the interior is similar to the one found on the new E-Class. Up front, the dash is dominated by twin 12.3-inch displays for the instrument panel an infotainment system.
  • The multi-function steering wheel is taken from the S-Class. While the ambient lighting system is also carried over from the E-Class, the illuminated air vents which change colours whenever a hotter or colder temperature is asked for by the occupants are brand new.
  • The rear seats of the CLS can now seat three for the first time. The rear seats can be folded down in a 40/20/40 split to extend the size of the boot which remains unchanged at 520-litres.
